The Bonding Ring = Ch.2

Running. The feel of air rushing through her hair is all she felt. It was night, and the moon was full. Danger. That's what was behind her. She wasn't sure who it was, but only that it was a man. An evil man. She reached the shore of an ocean, and stopped, panting. She called forth the power of the Lunar Powers and shrouded the entire space within view with foggy mist. She could see since she was the one who caused it to come forth. But her enemy would be blind. She hid behind a wide tree and waited. Soon enough, he appeared. Lightening was flashing around him now. He must be pretty mad. And powerful. You could tell by the streaks of lightening that his power was at least double the amount of hers. The next feeling she had was strange. A feeling of strength, more powerful than a witch's strength should be. It coursed through her veins, giving her this incredible urge to jump out and battle the ferocious man! As though she could take him on with just brute force alone. She was just about to jump out when a face loomed in front of her. Fire? That's what it resembled. "Don't do this, Eve."

Evelyn woke up suddenly. She was having a nightmare? She never had those. And who was that person at the end? Why did she think 'fire'?

"Hey, Eve, you're up."

Evelyn looked over toward her window and saw that it was pitch black outside, with a full moon. Next to the window was a fiery red mane of hair. Fire. Looking closer she saw that it was Krista. At that, she smiled.

"Do you have any idea how long you slept?" Krista teased her. Evelyn glanced down at the blanket around her in embarrassment and noticed a ring. Was she wearing this before?

Krista noticed her staring at the ring and sighed. "Eve. Is it alright if we talked?" Evelyn glanced at her, an odd expression covering her face.

"Do you remember the last few minutes before you fell asleep?" she asked Eve. Eve nodded, so she continued. "I bit you. I drank some of your blood, which tasted really good, by the way. You see, when your blood is consumed, you grow weak, and you fall into a deep slumber."

Evelyn's mind was reeling. Blood? Drinking? What?! "Wait, so you're a..." Evelyn couldn't quite finish that sentence.

Krista nodded. "Yes, I'm a vampire. And, um, I'm thinking that you're a witch. But I don't know that for sure."

Evelyn nodded slowly. She's a witch, and the one girl she wanted to fall in love with was a vampire. A vampire! Could she have anything with a vampire?

Krista smiled. “Anyone can have a relationship with a vampire. You see, passion is tripled when you're a vampire. Heightened senses, you know? Sight, smell, touch; well, passion is a sense, in a way. It's deeper than anything else a regular human can experience. Of course," she said smiling, "I'm not so sure of a witch’s senses."

Evelyn just realized something. She loved Krista. You can't deny love. Whether or not it's dangerous for them both, both in the human world and outside of it, it didn't matter. She got up from the soft world of her mattress and walked slowly over to Krista and sat on her lap. Caressing her face in her hands, Evelyn told Krista, "I am a witch. You are a vampire. But, amazingly, I don't care about that. That bite, it felt good," she smiled at Krista. "I don't know about you, but when you bit me, everything fell into place. I mean," she blushed and looked down. "I can't really-"

"I know what you mean," Krista told her, with a loving gaze. "I know exactly what you mean." She pulled Evelyn closer, until there was barely any space separating them. Evelyn leaned down and brought her lips to Krista's. Once they met, it was magic. Fireworks exploded. Rainbows appeared all over the world. It was right.

Krista's tongue entered Evelyn's waiting mouth and explored. Oh the wonder! Such sweetness and innocence. Pure pleasure. This kiss was different than others she had experienced. It felt better.

Evelyn enjoyed Krista's exploring, and she deepened the kiss. Her hand reached for Krista's leg and stroked, as if she were massaging a feline. Her other hand came up and entangled itself in Krista's hair, pulling their face closer. She wasn't satisfied, no matter how close they became.

Krista was aware of the stroking on her leg, halfway above her knee and enjoyed every sensation that entered her. She could feel the desperation in Evelyn, and didn't what to do. All she could think were two things. One was biting her a little. The other would be too much for them both. She wasn't sure if Evelyn would be ready for that or not. She could sense the innocence in Eve and didn't want to take it away from her. But oh! the temptation.

Pulling away a little, she murmured in a strained voice, "Eve, baby, we can't take this further."

Evelyn pulled father away and looked at Krista. "Why not?" she asked in a defiant hurt voice.

Stroking Eve's leg, Krista stared up into her eyes. "I'm sorry, but I don't think it's time. I don't wish to take your innocence away so quickly."

Evelyn just rolled her eyes and smirked. Strange for her character, thought Krista. She's so shy. Hm, maybe she's opening up more...

When Evelyn started to get up, Krista pulled her back. "Eve, I didn't say we had to stop," she told her, smiling. Evelyn stayed there, and slowly brought her hand to Krista's cheek. She held it there, her thumb stroking gently. Slowly, almost too slowly, Krista thought, Evelyn's other hand came to the hem of Krista's top. Her fingers played with the hem for a minute before slipping her fingers underneath to explore the stomach. Slowly, they traveled, inching higher. Finally, before she lost all her resolve, Krista pecked Eve on the lips and pulled her shirt down.

"Baby, you're making this harder on me. I want to be the good cop in this, you know," she told Evelyn, smiling a little.

Evelyn stuck her tongue out and jumped off Krista's lap and skipped back to the bed. As she reached to straighten the pillows, she noticed the ring.

"Uh, Krista," she called. Krista came up behind her, wrapping her arms around her. It was enough to distract Evelyn for a minute before she remembered what she was going to ask.

"Where did I get this ring? It looks so beautiful, but unfamiliar."

Krista glanced down at the ring and told her about the moon symbolizing the vampires and the stars the witches. Then she told Evelyn how it was a bonding ring. Through it, they could feel the other's emotions, but only faintly. It will become more pronounced, but after Evelyn's innocence was taken. Eve looked shocked.

"Why then? Why did you stop it?"

Krista shook her head. "One, like I said, it's too soon. And second, it's more important than you think. Right now, if you wish to leave me, you can. But once we do it, that's it. You can never leave my side again. And although I'm sure that I never want you to leave my side, I'm not sure how you feel, baby," she said, gazing into Eve's bewildered ones. She hadn't realized it was so serious.

"Can you read minds?" Evelyn asked Krista.

Krista nodded. Evelyn laughed. "No wonder you always react to my thoughts. Like when I was standing by the doorway..." she glanced up at Krista, her head falling back.

Krista laughed, lightening the mood. "Yes, like by the doorway." She bent to kiss Evelyn's lips once more before pulling away. "But I'm afraid, Eve. I'm afraid that although you think its love right now, if later, you'll change your mind." Her expression was so pained that a tear from Evelyn's eyes. A thumb came up and wiped it away.

"Don't cry, baby. I can't stand to see tears from that which I love," Krista told her.

They both walked over to the window, hand in hand, to stare out at the moon. Both of them loved the sight of the moon; it signified hidden power.

They didn't, however, see the shadow making its way among the trees at the end of the street. A dark shadow, darker than a normal one.

Wow, that was corny. It takes finesse to handle love at first sight. This did not show finesse. In your first chapter, you showed signs of being able to handle romance, but this chapter wasn't a good example of how good I think you can be! Try taking it slower. Make there be a little hesitation, a little more shyness from this supposedly "shy" character. Take it sssllloooowwww. Move it, but groove it. (Move the plot along, but use some class.) Suspense is what gives romance it's awesome. Ever heard of foreplay? Delay! Draw it out. Make your reader beg!

I know this was a tough review, but you said you could handle it on your novel... thingy. If it's too much, let me know.
